Gang Sentiong Station, locally known as Stasiun Gang Sentiong in Bahasa Indonesia is a commuter station located within a few kilometers of some of Jakarta’s major attractions.

It is about 5 kilometers east of Thamrin, a similar distance away from the Monas and its surrounding attractions.

Gang Sentiong Station is a stop on Jakarta’s Yellow commuter Line that connects Jatinegara Station in east Jakarta, with Bogor, Depok and Nambo in the south.

Gang Sentiong Station is the fourth stop on the Yellow Line north of Jatinegara Station.

Transfer Information for Gang Sentiong Station

Gang Sentiong Station is only located on one of Jakarta’s commuter lines. Therefore, it is not possible to transfer here.  

You can, however access either the Red Line or the Blue Line by travelling three stations in the southern direction to Jatinegara Station.

Once you at Jatinegara Station you can easily transfer to the Blue Commuter Line which services trains to Kota Tua (in the north) and Bekasi (in the south).  

If you are looking to transfer to the Red Commuter Line or to reconnect with the Yellow Line then travel to Jatinegara Station and then go west one station to Manggarai Station.

From Manggarai Station it is possible to then travel directly south to Bogor, Depok and Nambo.

What are the closest stations to Gang Sentiong Station?

If you are moving north on the Yellow Line towards Pasar Senen and Ancol, then the next station is Pasar Senen Station. Gang Sentiong Station is only around 1.5 kilometers away from Pasar Senen Station.

In the southern direction, the closest station to Sentiong Station is Kramat Station. The distance between Gang Sentiong Station and Kramat Station is just under 1 km.

What is located around Stasiun Gang Sentiong?

Although the direct area around Stasiun Gang Sentiong isn’t popularly known for major attractions there are some interesting local sights to explore.  

It is also quite close to the Monas, Thamrin, Menteng and Cikini, but the travelling time to these surrounding areas is highly dependent on the traffic.  

With no traffic they can be reached within 20 minutes, but if traffic is heavy 1 hour sounds more realistic.

Plaza Kenara Mas is the closest shopping center to Gang Sentiong Station. It is a small mall and it’s around 2 kilometers from the Station. It should take you about 20 minutes to walk from Gang Sentiong Station to Kenara Mas.

In terms of tourists attractions, you might want to check out Taman Ismail Marzuki. This is a complex that consists of a movie theatre, planetarium, opera house, public library and theatre. The distance between Gang Sentiong Station and the Taman Ismail Marzuki complex is around 3.5 kilometers and this should take you around 45 minutes to walk or around 15 minutes to drive.

Of course, the driving time will be subject to traffic conditions when you decide to go, but taking a moto should be much faster than a car.

This is also a small local market called Pasar Johor Baru that is within walking distance of Gang Sentiong Station. It’s only about 650 meters to the east of the Station and this should take you under 10 minutes to walk there. Alternatively, you could drive there, but it will take you around the same amount of time.

The accommodation choices around Gang Sentiong Station are definitely not the best in terms of what’s available in Jakarta.

Some of the most positively rated properties are 3-5 kilometers away. Some of the best options include The Hermitage, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel (4.4 km/ 14 minutes driving) Fraser Residence Menteng Jakarta (5.6 km/ 20 minutes driving), Lumire Hotel (3.9 km/ 11 minutes driving), Mercure Jakarta Cikini (4.2 km/ 19 minutes driving) and Ibis Jakarta Senen Hotel (2.4 km/ 11 minutes driving).

You will also find that most visitors to Jakarta prefer to stay in the vicinity of the Monas, or slightly further south in Thamrin where some of the best hotels are located in the entire city.  

There are also far more restaurant options and shopping options in those areas in comparison to Gang Sentiong Station. Some of the most positively reviewed hotels in Thamrin (just south of the Monas) include: The Grand Hyatt Jakarta, The Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, and the Keraton at The Plaza a Luxury Collection Hotel Jakarta.  All of these are considered to be world class properties.
